Quilt Patterns for the Shorthand Template

I currently have four companion patterns to go with the Shorthand Template set. See the beauties below, or click on the picture to see tester and customer images for yourself. Keep scrolling to see what I’ve got in the works!

Starline

Starline is stunning in its simplicity. A considerable amount of negative space in the quilt allows for endless quilting opportunities and a pattern that will shine with accuracy, but won’t wear you out while sewing.

Cookie Cutter

Cookie cutter is a mesmerizing quilt that’s sure to catch every eye. This pattern is FREE when you purchase a Shorthand Template set and will give you lots of practice with this new motif!

Ancient Words

Ancient Words is the first quilt in my Shorthand Series! This is the closest interpretation that you’ll see of the inspiration for this template: Ancient Cuneiform writing.

Compass Course

Compass course is such an interesting and EASY quilt! Fabric choices are a breeze: First, pick your favorite layer cake (precut 10″ squares), then find a coordinating background fabric, and a framing fabric to make the whole thing pop!

Trellis Twist

Trellis Twist is the newest pattern in the Shorthand collection! The templates almost disappear into the background, leaving you a top that lets your eyes stop and smell the roses.

Coming Soon

FAQ

Still have questions? Here are some frequently asked questions about the Shorthand Template:

What type of rotary cutter should I use?

I suggest the Martelli 28mm rotary cutter. This is because their cutters are designed to work well with their templates, and they produce my templates! There’s no side screw to interfere with your curve, so each cut is precise.

How do I stitch a curve?

Great question! The first thing I suggest: don’t freak out. It’s really not hard at all. Each pattern includes instructions on how to sew curves, but if you want an overview, visit my blog post about how to sew curved pieces or check out my video tutorial above!

What type of glue do you suggest?

Spend a day quilting with me and you’ll find that I am constantly using Elmer’s Disappearing Purple Glue Sticks. These are my top choice for any fabric gluing situation: it’s easy to see where you’ve glued on your fabric, and they wash out with water.

Do I have to use glue?

Absolutely not! I know that many people have great success without using any glue on these templates.

Can I make this shape with another tool?

Before the creation of this template, I tried to use many curved rulers to create this shape. I found it tedious and inconsistent, so I created the Shorthand Template. You might be able to approximate the shape with a curved ruler, but my template creates it perfectly every time!

Can I order the Shorthand Template in bulk?

Yes! I do wholesale the Shorthand Templates and patterns. Please create a wholesale account (it’s painless I promise!) and place your first order! Of course, I hope that you’ll order directly through me, but you can also purchase through Checker, Brewer and EE Schenck distributors.

Can I teach a class using the Shorthand Template?

Yes! There are a few things to keep in mind:

  1. Each student will be required to purchase a Shorthand Template Set and a pattern. I would prefer that templates and patterns are purchased directly through me using my wholesale site! Alternatively, you can purchase through EE Schenck or Brewer distributors.
  2. I want to help promote your class! Please let me know about your class; who is instructing, where it’s going to be held, and when. I’ll do my best to promote it on my social media channels.
  3. I would love to see what your students are working on- please send pictures, tag me on Instagram, and use the #shorthandtemplate hashtag!
