Compass Course | Pattern Release

It feels like FOREVER since I’ve released a pattern…it’s actually not true, but Ancient Words feels like a pattern release from a century ago!

I’m so thrilled about my newest creation because it uses my Shorthand Template to create these interesting circular shapes.

When designing, I often try to challenge myself. So, a few months ago, I chose to give myself the challenge of using precuts! Unlike most quilters, I’m not a huge fan of precuts, but onward we went. I ended up pairing this design with Layer Cakes (precut 10″ squares).

No idea what I’m talking about? Check out my precut guide here!

Needless to say, I’m slowly being converted to a precut gal…the cutting was SO easy and I got to use such a wide variety of prints…speaking of which, check out this ADORABLE fabric from Clothworks. This is the You, Me, and the Trees collection.

Those awesome curves are created with my Shorthand Template. There is a paper version included in the pattern but I suggest using the template for easy and precise cutting.

Now it’s time for some show and tell! Check out these awesome creations using my Compass Course pattern from my incredible pattern testers!

  1. New pattern release!!! And I’m not saying it’s been a long time, but your last pattern was released last decade, so… 😂😉
This pattern is gorgeous, and I love that you share the tester quilts and what they have done.

  2. Cute pattern and so versatile. I like how the focus changes with color selection and placement. Makes me think that I can take on some curved seams. Good job!

  3. Another amazing pattern by Rachel Rossi! She has incorporated the use of precuts with her amazing Shorthand Template to create this an eye catching quilt design! Don’t let those curved seems scare you, Rachel’s instructions will easily guide you through the steps to complete this quilt! I can’t wait to get started on my next Compass Course quilt!
