Winter themed placemat

Isn’t it just the best when there’s a pattern that you can use in more than one way!?

I discovered the beauty of this with my Squared Fashion Wrap, originally created for the chilly winter months. I then realized with a different fabric, it’s perfect for a beach cover up!

…but enough about that, it’s chilly for now, so let’s focus on the bitter cold blast that’s coming our way.

Let’s talk about Graze. A gorgeous little placemat that was originally designed to imitate the first blades of grass in springtime.

I wonder what happens if you turn those pieces of grass upside down…

and shade them in blues and silvers…

ahhhh.

Icicles.

Today I want to present to you a little hack on my Graze Placemat pattern. I guess it’s not so much of a hack as an idea for fabrics, but we’ll call it a hack for now!

Graze is a wonderful little paper piecing pattern that just got a little more wonderful! This pattern is great whether you’re going abstract or literal! Grass and Ice translate nicely and are obvious additions to your seasonal decor, while abstract and interesting prints create a breathtaking composition.

Here’s a little bit of detail for you. I decided to do some random straight lines for my quilting to really play up the icy feeling!

I even decided to try the Bernina Binding foot on this one! Not too bad for my first try!

What imaginative thing just sparked within you? I’d love to hear all about it in the comments below!
